Precisely how big is 2-year-old Carolyn?

I'm glad you asked.

Height: 35 inches (81st percentile)
Weight: 25 lbs 9 oz (36th percentile)
Head Circumference: 20 inches (99th percentile)

The 99th percentile for head size is primarily because of her enormous brain.

(As a side note: Greatest birthday picture ever? Greatest birthday picture ever.)

Happy Birthday, Carolyn!

Happy Mother's Day

What do you mean Mother's Day was two days ago? Not in my house. In my house Mother's Day is every day, especially in the middle of the night when Carolyn screams exclusively for Mommy, or when it's time for bed and Mommy has to lay next to her and she tells Daddy to "go downstairs and turn on the TV".

In truth, I didn't post this on Mother's Day because I was too occupied pampering my beautiful wife.

In actual truth, I didn't post this on Mother's Day because I had some terrible congestion in my head to the point that my hearing was affected and I was dizzy when I stood up, and I didn't move from the couch most of the day.

Month in Review: April 2010

We are now less than one month away from Carolyn's second birthday. And sure, we've been telling people (and so has Carolyn) that she's two already, but it's still weird to think about. At any rate, here's a quick summary of the last month.
  • Carolyn had a real blast looking for Easter eggs
  • We took a family vacation down to Florida. While we were there, Carolyn had the Quote of the Month. We were out to dinner, and Carolyn was drinking a lemonade. When asked "Is it yummy?" she replied, "It's perfect!"
  • It's been a while since she used the potty, but she's recently started up again, so we can now say we have a potty trainer again.
  • She's been sleeping in a toddler bed for nearly a month. She has had no problems falling out, and she has no problem taking full, non-stop naps in it, but overnight is not so hot. There have been less than a handful of occasions where she has stayed in her own bed all night, perhaps due to growing or teething or both. The odd thing is that she doesn't come into our room on her own; she'll wake up and call for Mommy instead.
  • She sings the ABCs and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star constantly, often in a little medley. For a while she had been leaving out the letter J, but she recently added it back in. Now we just need to work on the "Uhdoh-P" part.
  • As far as counting goes, she can count in English from 1 to 20 (okay, she fudges a few of the teens), and will then continue on with "eighty, ninety, a hundred!" She also counts backwards from 5 with no problems (thanks, Team Umizoomi!) She'll do 1 to 10 in Spanish and 1 to 5 in Mandarin as well. I've tried to get her to count in German too, but so far not much luck.
  • And finally, every once in a while she'll discard "dad" and "mom" entirely in favor of either "Chris", "Christopher", or "Kristen", usually when she's trying to find one of us.

Slideshow: Family Vacation in Sanibel Island, Florida

About a week ago now, we got back from a vacation on Sanibel Island in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. I've taken the liberty of annotating the pictures in the slideshow below to tell an (admittedly poor) account of the trip. There's also a video forthcoming when I get around to editing it. It was a great trip (apart from the plane ride home, although I must say the plane ride down was about perfect - Carolyn slept through half of it).
